Background of the Study: Falls among elderly patients are a significant concern in healthcare settings, particularly in long-term care facilities. As people age, they become more vulnerable to falls due to various factors such as reduced mobility, impaired vision, balance issues, and the presence of chronic conditions (Ali et al., 2023). Falls are associated with numerous adverse outcomes, including injuries, disability, and even death, making fall prevention a critical aspect of elderly care. The role of nurses in managing fall risks through preventive interventions is well-documented, with evidence showing that well-structured nurse-led fall prevention programs can reduce fall rates, improve safety, and enhance the quality of life for elderly patients (Oluwaseun et al., 2024).
In Borno State, where there is a high population of elderly individuals, especially in long-term care facilities, falls among this demographic pose a substantial health risk. However, despite the known benefits of fall prevention programs, there is a lack of focused research on nurse-led interventions specifically in Borno State. Nurse-led fall prevention programs are designed to involve comprehensive assessments, patient education, physical exercises, environmental modifications, and continuous monitoring, all of which have been shown to decrease fall-related injuries and hospitalizations (Okeke et al., 2024). This study aims to explore the impact of nurse-led fall prevention programs on elderly patients in long-term care facilities in Borno State hospitals.
Statement of the Problem: Falls are one of the most common and preventable causes of injury and hospitalization among the elderly. Despite the critical role of nurses in preventing falls, there is limited research on the implementation and effectiveness of nurse-led fall prevention programs in Borno State hospitals. The high prevalence of falls in long-term care settings indicates a gap in the current fall prevention practices. This study seeks to investigate the impact of nurse-led fall prevention programs on reducing fall incidents and improving the overall health outcomes of elderly patients in these settings.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: This study will focus on elderly patients residing in long-term care facilities within Borno State hospitals. The research will be limited to the hospitals in this state, and findings may not be generalizable to other regions. Limitations may include challenges in accessing remote healthcare facilities and potential biases in self-reported data from nurses.
